Arran or the Isle of Arran (Scots Gaelic: Eilean Arainn ) is the largest island in the Firth of Clyde, Scotland, and with an area of 432 square kilometres (167 sq mi) is the seventh largest Scottish island. It is in the unitary council area of North Ayrshire and the 2001 census had a resident population of 5,058. Although commonly associated with the Hebrides, with which it shares many cultural and physical similarities, these latter islands are located to the north and west beyond Kintyre. Arran is mountainous and has been described as a "geologist's paradise".

There has been continuous habitation since the early Neolithic period, from which time on there are numerous prehistoric remains. From the 6th century on Goidelic-speaking peoples from Ireland colonised the island and it became a centre of religious activity. During the troubled Viking Age Arran became the property of the Norwegian crown before becoming formally absorbed by the kingdom of Scotland in the thirteenth century. The 19th century "clearances" led to significant reductions in population and the end of the Gaelic language and way of life.

The economy and population have recovered in recent years, the main industry being tourism. There is diversity of wildlife, including three species of tree endemicto the area (Hentet fra Wikipedia, 2010).

Tirsdag som mange av de andre dagene voknet vi til regn, men det er jo ikke nødvendig å miste motet for det. For av erfaring så gir det regnet seg om noen timer. Det gjorde det i dag også. Lars fikk start på ”lille Oda” etter noen runder. Han er jo super. Vi tok en tur over til fastlandet for å handle og betale for bøyeleien. Når vi hadde spist lunsj tok vi Oda over sundet til en øy ved navn Holly Island. Her ligger det både et fredssenter og meditasjonsenter, i tillegg på andre side nav øya er det er kloster. Det var en flott tur over toppen av fjellet, det var som å gå på fjellet i Norge, kanskje som fjellet i Nord-Norge. Man går rett opp fra havet til en topp på 314 moh. En flott tur. Lars hoppet i vannet og badet jeg er for pysete – det er for kald ennå. Men det ble en deilig kveld med sol og blå himmel.
I morgen kaster vi loss og seiler mot Isle of Man. Det tar et døgn... Vi håper å være fremme torsdag på dagen. Vinden skal snu NE i morgen ca kl. 12.00 – så da får vi vinden med oss et godt stykke.
